The survival cost of our global society. (v1.0)

You have raised several important points about the long-term sustainability of global civilization, drawing on historical examples of collapse and the current challenges posed by global warming and societal changes. You express concern that society is not investing enough resources into researching and addressing these issues and that this lack of preparedness could lead to a collapse of civilization. You also mention the negative impact of certain trends, such as the rise of cryptocurrency, on the environment. You express hope that a benefactor may step forward to invest in a plan for survival and you believe that science can improve the overall quality of life for all people. Finally, you suggest that society should pay more attention to people and ideas that are focused on investing in the planet's future, rather than distractions like the dream of living on Mars.

knock knock

I will try to be sort: I wonder if our global civilization is viable? The base of this question is history. (Although recently I read somewhere, one thing history teaches us is that people don't learn from history.)

Copper age civilization went obsolete and civilization rebooted a few hundred years later. While such a widespread collapse of civilization we don't encounter as much in western history, (although the West Roman empire fulfills such criteria) certainly it was not the only one. (I recommend this series)

I have the impression people tend to overlook such collapses that happened within decades and not in a day. A second counter impression is a global market and unpreceded interconnection between nations makes a massive social collapse is improbable.

Why? Why the level of sophistication gives us the impression the society will last?

In actuality, the factors of Global warming keep increasing, while internet activities require more energy with passing time, Without mentioning probable social unrest that industry 4.0 and prolonged retirement age are signaling.

Such problems require research and research requires funding. A lot of it. A huge network where social scientists and psychologists will measure and debate the human society requirements. Engineers will need to design along with social measurables and environmental parameters. While Environmental parameters are retrieved by fundamental scientists. The convergence to a consensus of such a network would take decades.

Today time is passing and our global society is walking unprepared for a global climate and social change.

The potential workforce exists, but the resources are not channeled there. How much such a project would cost? 5 Billion, 5 Trillion? 5 Quadrillions? And how society is expected to survive when they don't invest that amount of money.

However today the existed resources are fueled in pointless directions such as 69.2 million dollars to the digital artwork. Cryptocurrency is a new trend and mining sucks more energy and produces more CO2.

Time doesn't flow without surprises, but as I see things today I am afraid the global society will collapse. People will not disappear in a day neither the infrastructure, but as an economist will call it "They will lose value". In a world that survival needs will be on a rise, the solutions would be behind tools with no value.

Then a vicious circle will involve again, the population equation is certain. Human numbers will decrease until the environment recovers. Where the new equilibrium will be? Some will survive (as numbers, as nations? I can not predict) but will be after how long and with how much knowledge to keep going on?

I usually like a positive tone to close a text, so there it is. A benefactor may be found to invest in a big surviving plan, maybe he is already there investing. Because if money can do any good in this world is to save people balance to nature.

My personal belief and observation is that science slowly but steadily increases the baseline of living for all people. Like a safe investment.

And if these all true, then people have to gift their attention and care to people that want to invest in this planet (Yes, I am referring that people follow the ideas of Elon Musk, whose dream is to live on Mars. How more stupid society's attention can get? ).

Adam
